Living an ultimate life means many things to different people. For some, it can mean a commitment to natural, sustainable living and a minimal carbon footprint. To others, an ultimate life is marked by a commitment to philanthropy and volunteerism or activism. Still others see it as the ability to tour the globe or complete a marathon. To us, it is all of these things and more.
Below are just a few of the core values that we feel embody the #LiveUltimate lifestyle.
Socrates boldly stated, “The unexamined life is not worth living.” Only in coming to know ourselves and our environments do we truly find meaning and joy in life. Take time to be in the moment, to appreciate the beauty in the simple and small blessings that surround us.
“Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them, humanity cannot survive,” instructed the Dalai Lama. Compassion for our fellow man, for nature, and for our majestic creatures is an essential practice in living an ultimate life.
Living naturally not only starts with your diet. A natural life may mean a commitment to safe skincare, or a decision to minimize carbon footprints by shopping local. A commitment to a natural lifestyle will ensure not only our own continued vitality, but that of the natural resources so essential to the next generation.
Whatever you do, do it well. If we rise every morning with passion in our hearts and purpose in our step, we melt away the stress of discontent that both takes away from our experience of life and can lead to chronic health problems. Find those things that give you passion, and find passion in all the things you do.
Nelson Mandela said, “Courage is not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it.” Courage is not always a grand gesture – it can be the empowerment we feel when we conquer our fear of heights, or the quiet strength we feel when we stand up for someone being wronged. Whatever your quest, face each day with courage and determination.
The first trick to living an extraordinary life is to identify and appreciate all of the extraordinary things that you already have, to find the extraordinary in the ordinary. The second is to strive for excellence, regardless of your goals. As Thoreau said, “If you’ve built your castles in the sky, your work need not be lost. That is where they should be. Now build the foundations under them.”
You are only confined by the walls that you have built for yourself. Take the time to examine your values, goals, and beliefs, and live a life that is true to those.
Happiness and physical health go hand in hand. Living a healthy, active life can not only improve our self-perception and self-esteem, but it eases the symptoms of chronic stress and can limit our risks for major illnesses. Treat your body like the temple it is.
Live with intention, and not out of habit. Live for something bigger than yourself, and leave your own, unique mark on the world.
